Chair - Illinois
Michael Buehlhorn is Chair of the Bi-State Development Board of Commissioners. He has previously served as the Secretary, Treasurer and Vice Chair of the Bi-State Development Board of Commissioners. He has also chaired the Operations Committee and was President of the Research Foundation.
Buehlhorn was appointed by St. Clair County Chairman Mark A. Kern and joined the Board in February 2011. A resident of Swansea, Illinois, Buehlhorn has been the Executive Director of the Metro East Park and Recreation District. In addition, Buehlhorn served as Mayor of Swansea, Illinois from 1985-2003, member of the St. Clair County Transit District Board from 1981-2001, the East-West Gateway Council of Governments from 1990-1997, Site Selection Committee for St. Clair County MetroLink from 1992-1994, and on the Illinois Municipal League Board of Directors for 10 years, including a term as its President from 1999-2000. He is currently the President of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois in Belleville, the President of the Epilepsy Foundation of Southern Illinois in Mount Vernon, covering over 34 counties in Illinois, a Board member of the Jefferson National Park Association and a Board member of the Gateway Center of Metropolitan St. Louis.
